Sustainable SecurityTM
SecureMatrix is fully engaged in the concepts of green building
and sustainable design. We understand the complexities of security and
sustainability and we incorporate sustainability features into our security
designs wherever appropriate.
As
part of our design methods, we apply a process we’ve phrased, Designing Through the Lens of
Sustainability™. This is a central
principal of our Sustainable Security
Initiative™. This initiative blends
the concepts of security and sustainable design, allowing us to incorporate
sustainability features into our security designs. This allows our clients to incorporate
security design features into a project that will enhance its environmental
performance and, in some cases, enable the acquisition of LEED®
points.

SecureMatrix believes that sustainability is
an issue that should be considered as part of any organization’s security
program. You may ask, “What does sustainability have to do with
security”? Try designing a video
surveillance system without adequate lighting and you’ll immediately see an
area of potential conflict. Consider the
LEED® goal that a building’s energy
usage be minimized and you see an area of potential collaboration.
Shrubbery can be a
‘green’ enhancement or a shield for criminal activity. External lighting can be ‘light pollution’ or
a critical tool for the safety of an organization’s personnel. Improperly designed, security can be in
conflict with LEED® and
sustainability programs or, properly designed, can help earn LEED® points and complement an
organization’s sustainability initiatives.
